Bavaria's former president of the Greek Basketball Federation, Vangelis Liolios, along with businessman Georgios Mavraganis and former referee Petros Papapetrou, were ordered into pretrial detention following their appearances in the ongoing investigation into the Greek basketball scandal. The court ruled that the three individuals must remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
Liolios, who had previously resigned from his position, and Mavraganis, a businessman under investigation, failed to convince the judge and prosecutor that they had no connection to the allegations against them. The court determined that their continued detention was necessary to ensure the integrity of the investigation. Papapetrou, another of the three, was also placed under pretrial detention.
The case has drawn significant public attention, with many questioning the connections between high-level officials and the alleged corruption within the sport. The scandal has raised concerns about the governance of Greek sports organizations and the potential influence of private interests in public institutions. The legal proceedings are expected to continue as authorities seek to uncover the full extent of the alleged misconduct.
