The region of Lassithi in Crete has been hit by severe flooding, with over 5,000 acres of farmland submerged. The water levels reached up to four meters in parts of the Oropedio area.
The flood has caused extensive damage to agricultural land, particularly to potato fields. Initial estimates suggest that more than 25,000 tons of potatoes have been lost. The situation has led to significant economic losses for local farmers.
The flooding is part of a larger weather pattern affecting the region, with heavy rainfall reported over several days. This is the second major flood event in the area this year. Local authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage and provide support to affected farmers. The impact on the local economy is expected to be substantial, with recovery efforts likely to take months.
