A cybercrime network in Thessaloniki has been dismantled after authorities uncovered illegal software used for fraudulent activities. The operation led to the arrest of 20 individuals, with over 1 million euros in illicit gains confiscated. The suspects were using custom-developed software to carry out online scams targeting both individuals and businesses.
The investigation was initiated following a series of reported fraud cases linked to suspicious online transactions. Law enforcement agencies collaborated with cybersecurity experts to trace the network's operations, which spanned multiple countries. The software was designed to bypass security measures and steal personal data, enabling the perpetrators to commit financial fraud.
This case marks one of the largest cybercrime operations in Greece in recent years. Authorities have emphasized the growing threat of digital crime and the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures. The suspects are now facing charges related to fraud, data theft, and illegal software distribution. The case highlights the increasing sophistication of criminal networks operating online and the importance of international cooperation in combating such activities.
